Owen Coyne, a 17-year-old student-athlete from Marblehead, Massachusetts, has died after suffering a sudden brain hemorrhage last week, according to a heartbreaking announcement shared by his mother, Angela Paradise. His death has devastated his family, friends, teammates, and the wider Marblehead community, where he was remembered as a kind, humble, and positive young man with a promising future.
In her emotional tribute, Paradise described her son, affectionately known as “Owie” to his family and “OC” to his friends, teammates, and coaches, as a truly special person whose warmth and kindness touched everyone he met. She remembered him as a respectful son, a loving older brother to Grady, Landon, and Ella, and a cherished grandson, cousin, and nephew.
Coyne was captain of the Marblehead High School football team and had been looking forward to the upcoming season. He was also a member of the school’s varsity baseball and track teams, earning the affection and respect of those who shared the field and track with him.
Beyond athletics, Coyne was a talented and much-loved sailing instructor for the Town of Marblehead. He enjoyed boating and proudly served as captain of his family’s boat, the “Coyne Collection.” He also spent his childhood summers at the Corinthian Yacht Club, where he enjoyed swimming and making memories with friends.
A dedicated student-athlete, Coyne had recently announced his commitment to attend Williams College, where he planned to continue his academic and football careers the following fall. His family recalled visiting the campus, touring its grounds, and meeting the coaching staff and team, experiences that convinced them he had found his next home. His death has left his loved ones grieving the college dreams and opportunities he will never get to pursue.
Despite the devastating loss, Coyne’s legacy continues through an extraordinary act of generosity: his mother revealed that his organs were donated and went on to save five people. This remarkable gift offers a measure of hope amid the family’s grief and reflects the lasting impact of a young life remembered for its kindness.
Paradise vowed to continue remembering, celebrating, and speaking about her son while carrying his legacy forward. As Marblehead mourns the loss of a beloved student, athlete, instructor, and friend, family members and community members are left holding on to memories of a young man whose life, though brief, touched so many people.
May Owen Coyne rest in peace.
