The vessel arrived off Juno Beach on D-Day +5, five days after the Allied landings began on June 6, 1944.

Following the war, Henry continued to demonstrate a deep commitment to remembrance. He was among the first veterans to visit the British Normandy Memorial after its completion in October 2021 and returned every year afterward, supported by the Spirit of Normandy Trust.

The memorial organization described Henry’s passion for remembrance as truly humbling. His regular visits reflected his determination to honor those who served and those who lost their lives during the historic Normandy campaign.

In its tribute, the organization remembered Henry for his beaming smile, infectious warmth, and wonderful zest for life. Those qualities brought happiness to everyone fortunate enough to meet him, making his presence at the annual commemorations especially meaningful.

The British Normandy Memorial extended its deepest condolences to the Rice family and all of Henry’s friends, expressing how greatly he would be missed. His life and service will remain part of the enduring story of the Normandy landings and the importance of preserving their memory for future generations.
